ORANGE COVE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Two people were arrested following a traffic stop during which officers found a semi-automatic firearm in their car in Orange Cove, the city's police department said.
Police say on Wednesday at approximately 10:53 p.m., officers conducted a vehicle stop on a white two-door BMW 328I at Hills Valley Road and Park Boulevard. The driver, 20-year-old Nathaniel Robert Tapia III, and the passenger, 21-year-old Christopher Nathaniel Lara, were contacted by an officer.
Police say Tapia refused a search of the vehicle, so the officer then had Lara exit the vehicle so he could then maintain a visual of both individuals. As Lara stepped out of the vehicle, police say an officer saw a black 9MM semi-automatic Smith and Wesson M&P firearm tucked in the front passenger seat and door frame.
Police say a search of the vehicle revealed two boxes of 9mm cartridges, one box of 40 caliber cartridges, two Glock magazines, one 9mm 31-round Glock magazine, one Glock trigger and 50-round drum magazines.
Tapia and Lara were both arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
