Lack of snowfall has ski areas making their own due to cold temps

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP)--It may be feeling like January but it doesn't really look like it with no snow on the ground especially in the Pioneer Valley. If you are a skier you're in luck, the cold weather has allowed most ski areas to make plenty of snow.
If you look out your window and you don't see any snow on the ground in your neighborhood you may not have to travel too far to find some. At Ski Sundown in New Hartford, Connecticut the cold weather we've been having has allowed them to make snow.
State police warn of ice dangers in Massachusetts
"Pretty much everything you see is manmade at this point," said Bob Switzgable, Ski Sundown's owner. "We've had a couple of snowstorms but not too much. So far we're expecting some more and we're hoping for some more but we make snow like crazy around the clock 24/7."
And conditions are pretty good right now here on the slopes according to two skiers that spoke with 22News.
"They're very good, they're very uniform so there's very few ice patches," said John Canora of New Britain. "I think it's about the best I've seen here in awhile."
"The conditions are really terrific, in fact the conditions here are better than they are in Vermont," remarked Eric Gladstein from Avon.
Switzgable says it has been a very good season. "We've had a terrific season so far we got an early start, we opened December 13th we were 100 percent open by the 20th and we're just enjoying all the cold weather and it feels like winter."
There were plenty of skiers and snowboarders taking advantage of the great conditions. They're expecting a lot of people for the Martin Luther King Junior holiday and Presidents Day weekend as well.
