NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- New Kent County residents are receiving calls from scammers claiming they are with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security so they can defraud them for money.
The New Kent County Sheriff's Office posted this scam alert on Facebook on Thursday, Jan. 16, after it received multiple reports of a similar scam.
These scammers, after stating they are with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security or Homeland Security Investigations, will claim they have a warrant for the victim's arrest.
They will then tell the victim that they can send money or gift cards to satisfy the warrant.
