COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WRIC) -- A Colonial Heights man is deploying to California as part of the American Red Cross' relief efforts for those impacted by historic Los Angeles wildfires. According to a spokesperson for the American Red Cross, Spiritual Care Volunteer Corey Baker will deploy for at least two weeks as part of the organization's relief efforts in California, where wildfires have killed multiple people and destroyed thousands of homes. Baker said he is hoping to bring hope to the people in California impacted by the wildfires by bringing them disaster spiritual care. "What I've learned from my experience is that people can live three days without water, 30 days without food -- but they cannot even live three seconds without hope," Baker said. "[It's] totally different when there's a fire, because you've lost everything -- the trace of everything," Baker said. "You literally have to start all over again. I really believe that the Red Cross and my presence is going to make a difference."
