TISBURY, Mass. (WLNE) — The Tisbury Police Department said that an Edgartown man was arrested on Jan. 15 after allegedly threatening to “vaporize” anyone who approached his vehicle at the Steamship Authority. 56-year-old David Anthony Capato was charged with disorderly conduct, threats to commit a crime, improper storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm during a commission of a felony, witness intimidation, and terroristic threats. Police responded to the area around 9 p.m. for a call about a firearm with a lock on it that the caller threw into a mailbox. The department said Capato made the original call, but allegedly became uncooperative and said he had multiple firearms and an explosive device in his car, which was parked in the drop-off area of the terminal. He threatened to “vaporize” anyone who approached him, and police evacuated the terminal, the parking lot, the incoming ferry, and the surrounding area. After hours of negotiation, Capato exited the vehicle and was taken into custody. He was allegedly wearing a body camera, and and a search of his car, the ferry, and the surrounding area found no explosive devices. Officers alleged that they did find an M4 assault rifle in the vehicle, as well as a revolver in a USPS mailbox at the terminal. The incident is under investigation. Categories: Massachusetts, News
