SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) -- Thursday night on KELOLAND TV, CBS will debut a reboot of the classic game show, Hollywood Squares. This celebrity-filled version of tic-tac-toe has been popular with audiences going back to the 1960's. One of those celebrities who appeared on the show came from South Dakota and shares some behind-the-scenes secrets. KELOLAND Living co-host Mitchell Olson fondly remembers his time as a celebrity square on the Hollywood Squares. "That was probably the most exciting week of my life," Olson said. Olson, as a former contestant on the reality show, Survivor, was one of the celebrities taking part in Hollywood Square's Survivor Week back in 2001. It marked his coming full circle as a square. "The show is filmed on the same stage as the Price is Right which is ironic, because 10 years before that, I was on the Price is Right," Olson said. 2 dead after drowning in Walworth County Olson says each celebrity guest on Hollywood Squares is given the questions beforehand. That way, they can come up with their own clever answers. "They basically say here are the questions you're going to be asked and you can either answer it truthfully or make something up and so, they just give you full reign on that," Olson said. The new version of Hollywood Squares is hosted by CBS Mornings co-host Nate Burleson. "I'm an Eighties baby, so I grew up watching all of these shows, from the black-and-white version all the way up to the Eighties when I was a child sitting on the floor in my living room. So getting the call to host the show was a little bit of a surprise, I couldn't pass up the opportunity," Burleson said. Thursday's premier was delayed a week because of the California wildfires. Longtime fans, like Olson, are looking forward to seeing celebrities and contestants squaring off once again. "It's funny, it's got comedy, it's got all kinds of elements that people enjoy, so I'm thrilled that it will be back," Olson said. Olson says they recorded all five episodes of Hollywood Squares on a Sunday afternoon, taking a lunch break between the second and third shows.
