Lincoln County fatal crash suspect back at court

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- A Beresford man facing murder and manslaughter charges in the death of his three friends appeared in court today via video link. Investigators believe 21-year-old Hayden Hall was driving a pickup that crashed in 2023 in rural Lincoln County.
Early in the morning on December 9, 2023, a pickup went off the road, flew in the air, landed in a ditch, and rolled. Three of the four people inside died. The 4th, Hayden Hall is charged with murder and manslaughter
Hall appeared before a Judge at the Lincoln County Courthouse this morning via a video link from the Minnehaha County jail where he is being held.
Today's status hearing gave the judge the state's attorney and the defense attorney a chance to update each other on the status of evaluations and evidence reports needed for a trial.

Prosecutors believe Hall was driving the pickup the night his girlfriend and friends were killed.When first responders arrived, Hall was nowhere to be found.
Investigators told KELOLAND News, Hall was hurt but made his way to a nearby dairy, stole a car, and drove to Beresford where he was later found.
Court documents say Hall had cocaine in his system.
The victims in this case were 18-year-old Collin Hlavac, 19-year-old Kaydence Nygaard, and 20-year-old Gerard Muller. The judge decided to hold another hearing in 60 days to give both sides a chance to get ready for trial and allow for any discussion of a possible plea deal.
According to court records, Hall posted bond for another criminal case less than 12-hours before the fatal crash. In that case he was accused of abuse and eluding.
