OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Mark your calendars! The Thunderbirds are set to headline an air show at Tinker Air Force Base this June. "It's great to be here in Oklahoma City. The show site looks awesome,” said Air Force Maj. Zachary Taylor, the Left Wing Pilot for the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron.  LOCAL NEWS: Oklahoma museum announces inductees at 64th Annual Western Heritage Awards Major Taylor spent Thursday morning scoping out the base so the Thunderbirds are ready to go this summer.  "I think our community needs to be ready for some fun and some excitement and just come bring it because it's going to be amazing,” said Col. Abigail Ruscetta, the 72nd Air Base Wing Commander.  Ruscetta said at Tinker Air Force Base, a 40 person team has been hard at work preparing for the show for about a year.  "That team is going to continue to build out. So, by the time we sort of get to the big June month show, it will be all hands on deck,” said Ruscetta.  Major Taylor said the show was redesigned in 2020.  LOCAL NEWS: Metro business, families “support” FDA ban on dye; legislation could ban more “It's going to hit you and your hearts and your feels,” said Major Taylor. “It may bring a tear to your eye, make you really proud to be an American."  He said it’s not something you will want to miss.  "Our solos will be 100 feet upside down over the ground, going over 500 miles an hour and pointed at each other,” said Major Taylor. “The diamonds will be flying 18 inches apart. That is 18 inches between wing tips, 18 inches between canopy. It is close."  The Air Show is June 28-29. Both admission and parking are free.
