Packages found dumped in downtown lot

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Several packages were discovered near downtown Thursday, open and dumped in a lot near downtown.
Ripped-open boxes were found along East Pontotoc Avenue near South Lauderdale Street. Some had names in full display.
A concerned citizen said one of the opened boxes appeared to contain vials of medicine, along with other items.
We talked to one of the people whose names were on the boxes. A woman said the package contained boots from QVC, and she's waited two weeks for delivery.
"I'm not happy about it," she said. "I got it for the weather that's coming up. It's about to get very cold and I wanted to be prepared for it."

It's still unclear how the packages ended up here.
We reached out to UPS and the United States Postal Service after finding shipping labels from both. A representative with the postal service responded:
"The Postal Service appreciates its customers and strives to provide excellent service. When mail service issues occur, we take steps to quickly resolve customer concerns. In this specific case, our research indicates the packages in question were not tendered to the Postal Service and were not handled by postal employees."
UPS said they are still looking into the matter, but in the meantime UPS offers free services that enable consumers to take control of their deliveries. These include UPS My Choice and the UPS Access Point network, which allows consumers to receive their deliveries where and when they want.
