1 dead, 1 arrested after crash on I65 in Tippecanoe County

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. -- Officials with the Indiana State Police and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on I-65 on Thursday morning.
According to a post on the Indiana State Police's social media, troopers responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on I-65 northbound near the 165-mile marker at around 10 a.m. on Thursday.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Hyundai Accent was reportedly traveling northbound on I-65 when it veered onto the shoulder on the west side of the road. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Framber Monserrat of Chicago, overcorrected and the vehicle left the roadway and rolled over.

The post read that the vehicle came to rest on its roof. A passenger in the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger's identity is being withheld pending positive identification and next-of-kin notification. The Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office will release the name after those steps are completed.
Monserrat and a juvenile passenger were transported to a Lafayette-area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The post read that as the crash was being investigated, investigators came to believe that Monserrat was under the influence at the time of the crash.
After Monserrat was released from the hospital, he was taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail on the following preliminary charges:
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death, a Level 5 felony
Neglect of a dependent causing bodily injury, a Level 5 felony
Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a minor, a Level 6 felony
Troopers with the Indiana State Police continue to investigate this crash, the post read.
