"My entire life has been involved with activity, sports, wellness and fitness," Beth Nienhaus said. "It's wonderful that we have community support."
Beth Nienhaus is also on the Board of Directors for the center.
The Thompson Center on Lourdes serves community members ages 50 and up with a way to meet and connect through various engaging activities. The facility includes numerous spaces, from a gymnasium to recreation rooms and a dining hall.
Board of Directors President Aoibh Greene said it's a momentous occasion, as they've planned for years to have this kind of day.
"We have spent the last 4-5 years behind the scenes plotting and planning for this day," Greene said. "It's [exciting] to bring the public in on everything that we've been doing and share our plans for the future."
The new senior center is expected to be opened sometime in 2025 at a new location on 3000 East College Avenue in Appleton. The location is currently undergoing renovations.
"We're excited to add pickleball courts, card playing rooms and a social area," Greene said. "Everything [will be] under one roof."
