ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- Misit Meehan hopes to return to her seat as the Allen County Democratic Party Chair for a second term after current chair Derek Camp announced he would not be seeking re-election.
Meehan previously served as the Democratic Party Chair from 2017 to 2021, citing her reason for stepping away as exhaustion from the pandemic election.

"It is a lot to be both a congressional chair and a county chair for a larger county during a presidential, pandemic election there was a lot going on," I just had to take a break," Misti Meehan said in an interview with WANE 15.
Meehan's main focus when returning to her chair seat is candidate recruitment. She felt the main struggle for the democratic party was the lack of people on the ballot.

"You have to give people a choice, you cannot get to victory if you're not even putting anybody on the ballot," Meehan said.
Meehan hopes that by 2026, there will be a full or at least almost full ballot.
"You're talking about a substantial amount of people and you have to treat it like a full-time job, because that's what it's going to take to get that amount of people on the ballot," Meehan said.
Meehan said that this is what she was meant to do, "my return was probably inevitable."
The new chairperson will be elected March 1.
