MATTHEWS, N.C. – Town of Matthews Interim Police Chief Major Roy Sisk announced his upcoming retirement after 30 years in law enforcement. Major Sisk has served as the interim chief since September 2024. “Roy has been an outstanding leader and a cornerstone of the Matthews Police Department throughout his 22 years of dedicated service,” said Town Manager Becky Hawke. “His professionalism, integrity and commitment to the community have left a lasting legacy. We are deeply grateful for his steady leadership through departmental transitions and his contributions as interim chief. We wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.” Major Sisk began his law enforcement career with the Wingate University of Campus Safety in 1994.  In 2003, he joined the Matthews Police Department. Over the past 22 years with the department, he served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Patrol Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, Captain and Major. “It has been an honor to serve the people of Matthews alongside the dedicated officers and staff of the department,” said Major Sisk. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together and am confident that the department is well-positioned for future success.” Major Sisk’s retirement will be effective January 31st. Penny Dunn has been named the new Interim Chief, beginning February 1st.
