Kirtland Elementary teacher honored nationally with Milken Educator Award

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A New Mexico teacher is now receiving national recognition for her dedication to education. Rashinda Billie, a fifth-grade teacher at Kirtland Elementary, was surprised with her Milken Educator Award, along with a $25,000 check at a school assembly Thursday.

The Milken Awards are given to exceptional teachers across the country who are in the early to mid stages of their careers. The Milken Family Foundation said Billie was selected due to her dedication to serving a majority of Navajo students, her prioritization of engaging and creative learning in the classroom, positive student outcomes and more.
