NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Mystick Krewe of Louisianians has announced the theme of this year's Washington Mardi Gras. Chairman Congressman Troy Carter and King Rico Alvendia announced on Thursday that the theme for this year's festivities will be "Duty, Honor, Louisiana." Music lineup announced for 2025 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival Krewe leaders said this year's theme will pay tribute to the United States military, veterans and first responders while showcasing Louisiana culture. “This year in DC, our Washington Mardi Gras Chairman Troy Carter and I invite everyone to join us in celebrating the people who keep us safe - our troops and police, overseas and at home, who have given so much to protect our lives and our freedom,” said Alvendia in a news release. New Orleans’ Audubon Zoo welcomes two new giraffes Part of the festivities will include a USO concert hosted by Alvendia featuring performances from "a major country music artist," West Point Band and bands from Edna Karr and L.B. Landry high schools. In addition to the concert, the Love One Louisiana Foundation will honor members of the New Orleans Police Department for their service and bravery during the New Year's Day attack. Krewe leaders said Alvendia also chose the Mars Hero Fund for his 2025 charity, which covers the cost of riding in the Legion of Mars Parade and other events during the year for active duty military, veterans and first responders.
