MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man wanted for leading Germantown Police on a chase back in 2021 has pleaded guilty to the crime after he was caught stealing $149 worth of items nearly four years later at a Home Depot in Hickory Hill. Marquez Thompson, 38, pled guilty to intentionally evading arrest in a motor vehicle while in court on Monday for another case. Home Depot's loss prevention agent stated that Marquez Thompson came into the business four days prior and placed one bag of Pennington smart seed and one bag of Scott's turf builder inside of a shopping cart. Thompson is then accused of walking out of the store with the items without paying for them. The agent says the items were worth $149 and that he recognized Thompson from other local Home Depots thefts. He was able to identify Thompson in a six-person photo lineup. 20-year-old arrested for same day carjacking, shooting, robbery In January 2025, Thompson was taken into custody and charged with theft of merchandise less than $1,000. While in court on January 13 for the shoplifting case, attorneys discovered that Thompson had an outstanding arrest warrant for a separate case in which he led Germantown Police on a chase back in March 2021. At that time, Thompson took a plea deal and agreed to a two-year sentence. He was immediately taken into custody. According to Germantown Police, the incident stemmed from when officers attempted to stop Thompson for speeding near the Memphis-Germantown border. Thompson was accused of pulling over and then speeding off as the officer approached his vehicle. Thompson is set to face a judge in February to determine how he will serve his sentence.
