MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A 20-year-old suspect was taken into custody for carjacking and shooting a man just an hour after he robbed another man at his home and held others hostage, Memphis Police say. On January 4, around 10 p.m., officers responded to a robbery at a home in the 3900 block of Mamie Avenue. A man told police that a woman was supposed to meet him at the house for a date, but when he heard a knock at the door and opened it, two men and two women armed with AK-style weapons forced their way into the home. Victim shot after attempting to chase down carjackers Reports say the group held four people inside the house at gunpoint while they robbed the victim of his iPhone. At around 11:15 that same night, officers responded to a carjacking and shooting in the 3400 block of Wingate Cove. A male victim told officers that he and his brother were traveling eastbound on Chuck Ave in their 2011 GMC Terrain when they were flagged down by two women in the back of a gray Nissan Altima. When they pulled over to help the women, two men got out of the Altima armed with guns and threatened the brothers into exiting their car by stating, "Get out of the car or I will shoot you." Police say the victims complied and were robbed of their wallets and keys. The suspects then got into the GMC Terrain and fled the scene. Memphis Police previously stated that the victim was shot while chasing after the suspects who were driving off the car. The other victim was not injured during the incident. Alexander Moreno, 20, was taken into custody on Wednesday. He allegedly admitted to being one of the men responsible for the robbery on Mamie, and the carjacking and shooting on Wingate. Alexander Moreno (Photo courtesy of the SCSO) Moreno is charged with Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder, Aggravated Robbery, two counts of Carjacking, Employing a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony, three counts of Especially Aggravated Kidnapping, and four counts of Aggravated Assault. His bond has not been set. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
