LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW): Good morning Kentucky! We are experiencing a bit of a break from the active weather pattern to close out the week. Warmer temperatures Friday will give way to an arctic blast Sunday into next week, bringing frigid air and snow chances. For your Thursday a few flurries will be possible, especially across northeast Kentucky, but little to no accumulation is expected. Highs will range from the mid-30s north of I-64 to the low-40s in southern Kentucky. A brief warm-up arrives Friday as high pressure shifts east, pulling in a southwesterly breeze. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny, with highs in the mid-40s for areas north of I-64 and near 50° in southern Kentucky. A system moves in late Friday, bringing rain overnight and into Saturday morning. By Saturday afternoon, colder air will filter in, transitioning rain to snow. Light snow accumulations are possible, mainly across southern and eastern Kentucky. Areas in higher terrain could see totals approaching 1 inch. Arctic air dives in Sunday, with highs struggling to reach the mid-20s. Wind chills will remain in the teens, and some snow showers could linger across southeastern Kentucky depending on the track of a low-pressure system to our south and east. Early next week will feature the coldest air of the season so far. Highs on Monday and Tuesday will only be in the teens, with overnight lows in the single digits. Wind chills Monday morning could drop below zero. A gradual warm-up begins by Wednesday, but temperatures will still remain well below average. The stage could be a set for a wintry chance by the end of next week but details are murky at best at this point. Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
