IMET invites public to celebrate Black History Month in partnership with the Reginald F. Lewis Museum to celebrate African Americans and Labor with a film screening and panel discussion on Maryland’s Black watermen.  This program will also commemorate the memory of Vincent Leggett, founder of the Blacks of the Chesapeake Foundation.  Water’s Edge: Black Watermen of the Chesapeake reveals the unique relationship and untold stories between African Americans and the Chesapeake Bay. Water’s Edge: Black Watermen of the Chesapeake chronicles unsung Marylanders that revolutionized an industry, dreamed beyond their circumstance and are still keeping this tradition alive today. George H. Brown, an ambitious steamboat captain revolutionized recreation for Black Marylanders in the early twentieth century.
