BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A registered sex offender with multiple prior convictions has pleaded no contest to exposing himself to teen girls in 2023 -- one of whom recorded the incident. John Anthony Searls, 37, pleaded no contest Wednesday to a charge of indecent exposure and faces a six-year prison term at sentencing, according to the District Attorney's Office. Four other felony counts were dismissed under the plea bargain. On June 18, 2023, two teens were walking in northwest Bakersfield when a car pulled up. The driver, later identified as Searls, got out and began masturbating, according to court documents. One of the girls used her phone to record him. Searls drove away and the girl gave the video to police, who sent out a news release that included an image from the recording. A parole agent and Searls' co-workers identified him as the suspect, documents said. In 2017, Searls was convicted of attempted kidnapping and indecent exposure and sentenced to six years and six months in prison, according to court records. That incident also involved a juvenile victim. He pleaded no contest in 2012 to indecent exposure and received probation, and in 2022 he pleaded no contest to being a convicted sex offender trespassing on school grounds, records show.
