Massive fire engulfs historic Norwood house under renovation

A massive fire had crews trying to save a Norwood historic house on Thursday.Crews at the scene said they received reports of a house fire, around 3 a.m., on the corner of Floral Avenue and Hudson Avenue.According to firefighters, when they arrived at the scene the house was engulfed in flames.Neighbors said the home was built in the 1800s and it was undergoing renovations after new homeowners bought it.Stephanie Downs said, "the criteria for selling it, allowing this particular family to buy it was they said 'you have to promise that you will maintain the beauty and the historic value.'" An Instagram account for the house confirms it was built in the 1890s. It was designed by George F. Barber and is in his architectural catalog as Cottage Souvenir No. 2 Revised and Enlarged.Norwood firefighters said no injuries were reported and no one was in the house at the time of the fire. The cause of the flames is still under investigation.
