(KRON) -- A Daly City man was convicted of crimes that included strangling his girlfriend in front of their young children, beating the victim, and sexually assaulting her, San Mateo County prosecutors said. James Phillip Nalus, 42, will remain in jail with no bail until he is sentenced to prison on March 19 by Judge Jeffrey Jackson. A jury delivered its guilty verdict on Tuesday. Prosecutors said Nalus was physically abusive toward his girlfriend during their 4-year-long relationship, and they had three children together. He was arrested in January of 2023 by the South San Francisco Police Department after the victim reported several disturbing incidents. She told police that her boyfriend met a man online and he wanted her to participate in a "threesome," according to prosecutors. The victim said no, but Nalus threatened to beat her if she continued refusing. Prosecutors wrote, "the defendant forced her to have sex with him and the other male." Video: Wild chase on Marin County highway recorded by helicopter The victim told police about another incident when, "over the course of a few days, the defendant repeatedly beat and strangled the victim in front of their young children. He told her he got turned on by beating her. The defendant called out of work a day after beating her to ensure (she) didn’t call the police or leave the hotel room," the district attorney's office wrote. A 13-day trial for Nalus ended when jurors convicted him on 23 counts, including forcible rape, domestic violence, felony child cruelty, and sexual battery.
