HONOLULU (KHON2) -- A cold front is expected to pass north of the islands Thursday and Friday. Kona winds are expected to replace the trade winds and usher in showers during this time period. Although most of the heavy rain will remain north, some heavy showers are possible Thursday and Friday afternoon. Trade winds and drier conditions will return to the state this weekend. The trades will continue to ease with land and sea breezes becoming common later tonight and Thursday.Limited showers will favor windward sections of Maui and the Big Island through early Thursday, with a few showers developing over the island interiors Thursday afternoon.A cold front will move southeast down the island chain Thursday night through Friday night, bringing an increase in showers with it as it moves through.Behind the front, much drier, cooler, and more stable weather will build in. These conditions will make for a beautiful Holiday weekend across the entire island chain with only a few very light showers affecting windward slopes and coasts. The next front could bring a better chance for some rain around the middle of next week.
