This story was updated following additional information from city officials. An apartment complex and a few dozen homes in the Candalaria area should boil water for 24 hours as a precaution following a brief drop in pressure in the city’s water supply, officials said. The issue occurred just before noon Wednesday when a valve failed on a water main near 2525 Crestview Dr. S. The nearby Harmonia Heights apartment complex and a dozen homes lost water service, while about 30 had low pressure, said William Swint, crew head for the public works team repairing the issue. Crews shut off water for about 40 minutes until 1 p.m. to repair the issue. Water service should be back to normal Sunday evening, Swint said. City spokeswoman Kathy Ursprung said the issue was smaller than initially thought. She described the boil water notices as “precautionary” and said they were hand-delivered to affected households. The city will take water samples to confirm water is safe to drink. People who have experienced a disruption in water flow or pressure can report it to the city’s Public Works Department by calling 503-588-6311.  This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
