Two Walgreens stores set to close in Oakland
Jan 15, 2025
(KRON) -- Two Walgreens stores are closing in Oakland next month, the pharmacy store confirmed to KRON4. The locations that will shut down are 5055 Telegraph Ave. and 301 E 18th St.
The Telegraph store will close on Feb. 27, according to Walgreens. The E 18th Street location will close on Feb. 24.
There was no specified reason for why the two Oakland stores were closing. Walgreens simply said it is the "same reason(s) for all our closures."
Walgreens cited factors such as operating costs of rent, staffing and supply needs. The pharmacy giant said, "it is never an easy decision to close a store," acknowledging each one is important to the communities it serves.

The announcement of the Oakland closures comes a week after Walgreens said it will close 12 stores in San Francisco. Although the exact closing date for each store is still not set, two of them will shut down for good by the end of February: the Franklin Street and Market Street locations.
"When closures are necessary, like those here in Oakland, we will work in partnership with community stakeholders to minimize customer disruptions," a Walgreens spokesperson wrote in a statement. "We intend to redeploy the majority of our team members from those stores that we close."
The closures come after Walgreens announced last year that the pharmacy store would close about 1,200 domestic locations over the next three years as part of its "turnaround strategy."
There are currently about 8,500 Walgreens in the United States.
