The video showed the driver going the wrong way on Lead near I-25, nearly missing a car before crashing. Before the chase, police said the driver, Ricardo Mones, was doing burnouts in a parking lot near Central and 7th. APD said when they approached him, Mones reversed into a police car and took off. After the wrong-way crash, helicopter video showed Mones trying to walk away before hiding in a bush. Officers are then seen walking up to him. He didn't stay hidden for long. Police arrested Mones. They said he wreaked of alcohol and was slurring his words. Police took him to the hospital, others involved in the crash also went to the hospital. Mones was swearing and talking smack to officers during the majority of the interaction that night. APD officers had to chain his legs and put a mask on him to keep him under control. While at the hospital, police said Mones refused treatment and a blood alcohol test. He was checked out and booked into jail. Mones is facing a list of charges including DWI, reckless driving, and aggravated battery. A judge granted the state's motion to keep him behind bars while he awaits trial.
