JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — The Johnston Police Department said it has arrested the suspect who assaulted a man on a bike path on Jan. 11. 40-year-old Dana Mauch was arrested and charged with assault, larceny, and disorderly conduct. Around 9 a.m. on Jan. 11, a 28-year-old man told police he was jogging on the Woonasquatucket bike path in Johnston when he noticed a man walking towards him. Mauch then allegedly charged at the victim and knocked him to the ground, according to police. During the assault, the hat that the victim was wearing fell to the ground. Mauch then allegedly picked up the hat, put it on his head, and kept it. The 28-year-old victim then posted a video on TikTok and documented the incident. In the video, he said he was “bodyslammed,” and that the man who assaulted him called him an anti-gay slur.  On Wednesday, around 4 p.m., police discovered the suspect walking in the area of Manton Avenue and Atwells Avenue. Police said he was wearing the same dark colored jacked that he wore during the assault. Mauch was arrested on an active misdemeanor arrest warrant for assault, larceny, and disorderly conduct. Mauch is set to be arraigned in 3rd District Court on Jan. 24. Categories: News, Rhode Island
