MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 54-year-old year-old man is accused of threatening to burn down his parents' Cordova house and stab them with a knife. Joseph Lyons was arrested and is charged with domestic assault and aggravated assault. The case dates to last May, but he was arrested and jailed Wednesday after he was released on bond last year, according to records. Police say Lyons had been living with his parents on Lacewing Trace Lane. On the morning of May 8, they say he woke up and asked his parents to take him to a liquor store. He then became intoxicated and allegedly aggressive, according to an affidavit. Lyons' mother told police she saw him on a computer trying to cancel his parents' life insurance policy before she quickly unplugged it. Lyons allegedly went to the garage, grabbed a gas can and threatened to burn down the house. The mother was able to get the can away from him and lock it in her car. Police say he then went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and threatened to kill his father. At that point, police pulled up outside, and Lyons dropped the knife, police said.
