KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- One local theft victim says she's out nearly $100,000 worth of lost items after thieves hit at least two storage facilities. The suspects seem to be more sophisticated with how they're getting into these units, having plenty of time to get what they want and take off. Family of slain Platte County journalist asking for help finding highway shooter Kendra Lynn, one of the victims, says she is devastated. Lynn was in the process of moving, so she put many of her designer clothes, shoes, hats and purses in a storage unit, something many people do when prepping for a move. However, Lynn got a call from Public Storage five days after the burglary. When she went to her unit in Independence off of 42nd Terrace, she couldn't believe her eyes. “They cut the locks on the storage and your things are gone. It wasn’t my storage, it was the storage behind mine," Lynn explained. As she described, the thieves cut the locks on a conjoining unit and then cut through the back wall to access her unit. FOX4 learned from a Public Storage employee that the units here weren't the only ones hit, so were the company's at their location in Raytown. "It's very discouraging I mean it's heartbreaking," Lynn continued. "Some things can just never be replaced. We're talking about 100,000 (dollars worth of items) or so, yes it was very valuable things." Among the nearly six-figure haul these crooks made out with, they managed to get Lynn’s custom Alaskan fur jacket worth thousands of dollars. Lynn wants the thieves, as well as Public Storage, to be held accountable. "This is not cool, you're hurting a lot of people, you're causing a lot of pain and heartache," she said. "I feel like they should be responsible, held responsible for the whole claim. I should not have to put a claim in with their insurance and the rest with mine they should be responsible for the whole entire thing." Liberty officer, firefighters help rescue mom, infant from icy water Lynn says she's frustrated not only for the five-day gap between the theft and the company contacting her but also for their claim of having cameras all over the property while no arrests have been made. FOX4 contacted Independence Police who say this is an active investigation. They're still waiting on the security footage from the facility.   We're still waiting to hear from Raytown Police about the other Public Storage unit that was hit. FOX4 also reached out to the storage company, but have yet to get a response As for Lynn, she says she would not recommend ever using a Public Storage unit.
