HONOLULU (KHON2) -- In a surprising announcement on Wednesday, Jan. 15, City and County of Honolulu officials confirmed that Jordan Lowe, Director of the State Department of Law Enforcement, will be stepping down. Get Hawaii's latest morning news delivered to your inbox, sign up for News 2 You Lowe played a critical role in laying the department's foundation but his time as director has not been without controversy. Most recently, there were three separate investigations into misconduct allegations involving nine sheriffs. While there was no reason stated for his resignation, Governor Josh Green acknowledged the DLE's many issues. Senate highlights five areas of focus for 2025 legislative session "Because there had been some moments that were deeply challenging for him and his team, sometimes just good to get a fresh start," said Governor Green. Governor Green added his appreciation for Lowe's service and said he will help him find another position. “His vision, dedication, and meaningful contributions have left an indelible mark on the department, and we thank him for his years of service to Hawai‘i." Long-serving HPD Major Mike Lambert has been nominated for the position, bringing in more than 22 years of experience to create innovative and effective strategies for the department. In his time, Lambert worked his way from patrol to the Narcotics Vice Division, earning respect for his colleagues, community trust and numerous awards along the way. “Mike Lambert has dedicated his career to protecting and serving the people of Hawai‘i with integrity and commitment. am confident he will continue to prioritize the safety and well-being of our communities while upholding the highest standards of justice," said Governor Green. It is an honor to be nominated as Director of the State Department of Law Enforcement. I am committed to working collaboratively with our law enforcement partners, community leaders and residents to ensure a safer, stronger Hawai‘i.
