GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- Two days after investigators pulled 26-year-old Laequan Little's body from a pond at a Greensboro apartment complex, his mother spoke with FOX8 for the first time. Tamika Little says her son Laequan was on the way to pick up his daughter on New Year's Eve the day she reported him missing to Greensboro police. "There was never a time that he did not call me. If I called him, and he missed my call, my son would call me back. That's what made me worried when I called him, and he didn't call back," Tamika said. "He would give his last to anybody. He was a great father. He loved his daughter to death. Would do anything for her. Didn't want to be without her." Tamika says her son was last seen driving his black Honda Civic at the Reserve at Bridford Apartment Complex in Greensboro. She says on Jan. 2, Greensboro police met with her at a pond on the property. "What they did was put a stick in the pond and said, 'It's too shallow. A boat can get into that pond and touch the bottom of the pond. That pond was not big enough for a vehicle to fit there,'" Tamika said. On Jan. 4 and Jan. 5, Tamika says she organized a search party of more than two dozen people to search for Laequan. "There were tire marks ... Those were the tire marks that I told the detectives that we saw," Tamika said. The tire marks were located right beside a pond off the 1400 block of Bridford Parkway. On Jan. 6, Tamika says she reached out to divers with the nonprofit Rapid Compassion Collective. They focus on helping families with missing loved ones by searching lakes, ponds and rivers with their own equipment. She says that last weekend, the divers discovered Laequan's vehicle in the pond while using an underwater drone. They called Greensboro police Monday morning, and a team of Guilford County underwater divers pulled both the vehicle and Laequan's body out of the water. "I'm glad that he's found, but I wanted my son found sooner rather than 13 days. I was very upset ... To get a phone call that they pulled my son out ... was devasting for me," Tamika said. As Greensboro police continue their investigation as to what led to Laequan's death, his mother prays their family will get much-needed questions answered. "I just want to thank everybody who gave their time, who sent out their prayers, who reached out to me," Tamika said. We've reached out to Greensboro police with several questions about the investigation process and what led to Laequan's death. A spokesperson says autopsy results are pending and additional details about the case will be released at a later time.
