Broncos brass: Everything is on the table for new stadium, including moving to Lone Tree

DENVER (KDVR) — It's been just months since the Denver Broncos broke ground on a new training facility and discussions are underway for a potential new stadium.
Broncos co-owner and CEO Greg Penner, who also chairs Walmart, spoke during the Denver Broncos end-of-season press conference, held Wednesday after a disappointing loss in the wild-card playoff game on Sunday. He was questioned about the possibility of a new stadium or renovation of Empower Field at Mile High, which opened in 2001 and replaced the old Mile High Stadium.
"We haven't ruled out anything at this point," Penner said.
Including the potential to move the stadium south on Interstate 25 to the city of Lone Tree.

“With the stadium, I’m sure you all have seen some rumors recently," Penner said. "We are continuing to do our due diligence. It is a complex question and decision of what we decide to do. We haven’t ruled out anything at this point. We are still looking at options on the current site, around Denver, and we’ve visited other places like Lone Tree. We still have more steps to take there.”
Sean Meaghan spoke to FOX31's Greg Nieto about the possibility of the Broncos stadium in the Lone Tree area. He lives in a Lone Tree-adjacent address in unincorporated Douglas County and said the area has amazing sunsets and children throughout the neighborhood.
"I would love to have a stadium," he told Nieto — just as long as it stays east of the interstate.
The end of Empower Field at Mile High's lease is set to expire in 2030, so talk at this point is just that: Talk.
Meanwhile, work continues on the $175 million training facility in Englewood.
“We broke ground on the new training facility in September and we are about 10 to 15% of the way there in terms of completion on construction," Penner said during Wednesday's press conference. "We are about 90% of the way there on design. Everything is going according to plan. We had some snow days baked in. I think we’ve only had two days off so far. Things are progressing as we’ve planned. We couldn’t be more excited about how that is coming together. Our goal is to only have one training camp where that really disrupts our training camp."
FOX31's Greg Nieto reached out to the Douglas County Commissioners for comment on the possibility of a Broncos stadium in their county, but the board declined to comment.
