(PUEBLO, Colo.) — In anticipation of extremely cold weather in the forecast, the Pueblo Shelter will be open 24 hours a day starting Saturday, Jan. 18 to provide a warm place for anyone who needs shelter from the temperatures. With a report from the National Weather Service stating that temperatures are predicted to reach below zero with wind chill, the Pueblo Shelter will remain open throughout the cold snap, Jan. 18-21. How you can prepare for cold weather “We want to ensure everyone in our community is prepared for the cold weather and is able to seek shelter without barriers in order to prevent loss of life and limb,” said Mayor of Pueblo Heather Graham. Safeside Recovery will hold its outreach event on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and will be distributing gear to assist with the cold weather including hats, socks, shoes and more. “We will provide cold gear to individuals during our outreach Saturday event in order to assist people with plenty of layers to protect themselves during the subzero temperatures,” said President of Safeside Recovery Rob Miller. Safeside Recovery and Pueblo Shelter is seeking donations such as gloves, handwarmers and blankets to assist with this outreach effort. To donate, you may visit Safeside Recovery and the Pueblo Shelter at 728 W. 4th Street in person or contact the main line at 719-924-8413 for more information. Additionally, the shelter will provide two meals each day including a sack lunch and the daily meal at 4:30 p.m. The sack lunch provided Saturday through Tuesday has been sponsored and provided by Oasis Church to assist with the influx of people seeking shelter during this time. The emergency shelter location is located at 710 W. 4th Street and will remain open all hours from Saturday, Jan. 18 through Tuesday, Jan. 21 to ensure no one remains outside during the coldest predicted temperatures of the winter so far.
