IREDELL CO., N.C. – Iredell County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an accused criminal from Tennessee. On Tuesday, deputies responded to a domestic incident at 108 Claremont Way in Mooresville. When they got there, the suspect, John Daniel Maxwell had fled the scene in a 2012 Jeep Liberty registered to the victim.
Deputies say they located the vehicle and tried to get 23-year-old Maxwell to pull over, but he instead sped off. They say he swerved off the road multiple times, causing safety concerns which prompted deputies to stop following him.
They say Maxwell continued to drive recklessly before pulling onto I-77 south.
Deputies at the Claremont Way location gathered evidence and secured warrants for charges including Felony Assault by Strangulation, Misdemeanor Assault on a Female Misdemeanor, Flee to Elude Arrest, Misdemeanor Reckless Driving, Misdemeanor Driving While License Revoked and Misdemeanor Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle
Deputies also discovered that Maxwell was out on a $100,000 bond for assault in Tennessee and had disabled his ankle monitor. Tennessee authorities confirmed extraditable warrants would be issued. A few hours later, deputies located Maxwell, who attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended.
Maxwell has a North Carolina criminal history including Felony Possession of Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor Assault on a Female, and Multiple Traffic Violations.
He is currently held at the Iredell County Detention Center without bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
