Water main breaks in Escondido repaired; roadway repairs underway, city says

Residents and businesses got their water restored Wednesday after two water main breaks were reported Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
The first water main break happened near the intersection of Olivia Glen and Vermont Avenue just after 2 p.m. Tuesday The Escondido Fire Department found a large water main had burst in the street, creating a sinkhole, the city said in a news release.
The city shut down the water impacting around 100 residents. By Wednesday morning, water service had been repaired.
Repairs to the roadway damaged by the break were underway and will continue to impact traffic on Vermont Avenue, the city said.
As of Tuesday night, no injuries were reported, the city said, but a vacant townhome and a nearby parked vehicle were damaged. It is unknown what caused the break.
Less than six hours later, another water main break occurred on Oak Hill Drive, west of South Midway Drive. Morrow said 20 homes and Oak Elementary School would be without water. At around 2 a.m. Wednesday the service was fully restored to the area.
