WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Last week's snowfall is still causing some problems for people getting around the District. Bicycle riders along 20th St. in Northwest must take a detour when they approach the intersection at M Street as snow blocks the designated bike bath. "This is really unsafe for bikers and really unsafe for pedestrians as well," said Kiera Wainer, who rides her bike through the area daily. "I think it's a nightmare for anyone trying to bike to work, bike to go work out." Councilmembers evaluate impact of Initiative 82 on restaurant owners, employees According to DDOT, its bike-lane team clears protected bike lanes, usually six to 24 hours after it takes care of lanes used by cars. "It's a little frustrating," said Daniel Chagnon. "I mean, the rest of the ice is has melted everywhere else. The sidewalks are clear and for some reason, bikes are never prioritized." Crews from Capitol Paving turned up the heat just up the road at S Street as they worked to clear the winter problems. They said the District hired them to remove snow and ice. Crews also used pick-axes, shovels and leaf blowers. As of airtime, DDOT had yet to respond to a request to comment on when the snow blocking the 20th Street NW bike path will be removed.
