WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- A Wichita man who was in prison for a 2023 murder has died. Angel Pedro Lara, 25, was in the Lansing Correctional Facility. Angel Lara (Courtesy Kansas Department of Corrections) The Kansas Department of Corrections says Lara was found ill inside the facility clinic Tuesday afternoon. Staff and EMS administered life-saving measures and took him to the local hospital, where he died Wednesday morning. An autopsy will determine the cause of death. Lara pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of 31-year-old Chance Martin of Wichita. The shooting happened on the evening of May 10, 2023, in the 3400 block of E. Sunnybrook Lane. Card skimming device found at Kansas Dillons grocery store A judge sentenced Lara to 10 years in prison. His earliest possible release date would have been April 2032. As a matter of protocol, the Department of Corrections and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation investigate all prisoner deaths in Kansas. The investigation is in the early stages.
