KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A firefighter with the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department was "severely injured" Monday morning after being hit by a fire hose while battling a commercial fire.
According to a Facebook post by the KCK Professional Firefighters Association, crews were working on a fire at a Subway near Southwest and Rainbow Boulevard when a driver ran over one of the supply hoses, pulling it from a fire hydrant and causing it to hit a firefighter.

Although the incident wasn't fatal, KCKFD said it shows just how quickly things can go wrong in their line of work.
"As firefighters, we work in unpredictable and dangerous conditions. We rely not only on our training but also on the public’s attention to detail to ensure everyone’s safety," the post said.
"Something as seemingly simple as avoiding driving over a fire hose or pulling over to the right when emergency vehicles are responding can make all the difference."
As a result of this incident, the KCK Professional Firefighters Association released a list of reminders that the community should keep in mind when driving by the scene of a fire.

The list says:
Never drive over the fire hose - These hoses are critical for fighting fires, and driving over them can damage the equipment, disrupt operations, or cause injuries.
Proceed with caution around emergency scenes - If you’re unsure whether your actions might cause harm, always err on the side of caution.
Pull to the right shoulder - This simple action helps us navigate through traffic and respond quickly to emergencies.
The firefighter's specific injuries have not been released to the public, but as stated before, they were non-life-threatening.
KCKFD confirmed to FOX4 that Monday's fire is now an arson investigation.
