TOPEKA (KSNT) - Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is due to give her next "State of the State" address on Wednesday as the current legislative session gets underway. Kelly outlined some of her big goals for the 2025 session of the Kansas Legislature ahead of her State of the State address on Jan. 15. She is set to make another push to expand Medicaid in the Sunflower State. "I've got my seventh proposal ready to go," Kelly said. Kansas is one of a handful of states holding out on Medicaid expansion as of 2025. Republicans in the Legislature, who maintain supermajority control in both the House and Senate, are expected to resist Kelly's efforts again this year on this issue. "I mean the governor is going to push for it, guarantee it she will, I expect her to," said Republican Kansas House Speaker Dan Hawkins. "And she expects me to push back and say 'no.'" What were the first 10 bills introduced in the Kansas Legislature in 2025? Kelly told 27 News she will also be focusing on developing the state's economic power. She will give her State of the State address for 2025 at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15. "We want to continue to focus on economic development," Kelly said. "We've had historic... a record number of dollars coming in, of jobs coming into the state. We want to continue to build on that because that has allowed us to do everything else that we've wanted to do which is to fully fund our schools, fully fund our transportation program, expand broadband."
