EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Route 10 in Easthampton saw its second pedestrian-involved accident in just a week after police and fire were called to a two-car crash Wednesday afternoon.

The latest incident occurred just after 3 p.m. Wednesday in the area of 30 Northampton Street when Easthampton police and fire officials were called to a two-car crash that involved a pedestrian.
According to Easthampton Police Lieutenant Chad Alexander, no injuries were reported, and no one required hospitalization. The road was reopened shortly after the collision.
This comes just days after a deadly pedestrian crash on January 8, in which a 72-year-old Easthampton man was struck and killed while crossing Route 10 near 412 Main Street. The driver involved in that incident, a 39-year-old Westfield man, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Residents have expressed growing concerns about the dangers of Route 10. “This Main Street, Route 10, they do 70 mph on it all day long,” said Troy Boisseau, a Westfield resident who frequently drives the road.
Jake Vishaway of Southampton noted how rare but alarming these accidents are for the area. “It’s crazy; you don’t see that often around here for sure,” he said.
Experts point to factors such as speed, poor visibility at night, and distracted driving as contributors to pedestrian accidents. The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office has yet to determine the cause of last week’s deadly crash, but the incident has reignited calls for increased safety measures on the busy roadway.
