RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Vehicles in Virginia will receive a new sticker after passing their safety inspections in 2025.
According to Virginia State Police, vehicles in Virginia that have passed safety inspections will now receive a new safety inspection sticker with the changeover in the calendar year from 2024 to 2025.
The sticker, which is using the color green for the first time, includes multiple changes from previous iterations. According to officials, these changes are designed to make the inspection sticker more difficult to counterfeit.

The new sticker includes a holographic state seal and an image of a dogwood tree flower, which Virginia State Police said are images that are difficult for counterfeiters to effectively copy.
The sticker also includes two QR codes for the first time, with the larger QR code directing individuals to the Virginia State Police Safety Division webpage and the smaller code for administrative purposes.
According to Virginia State Police, the expiration month will appear on a white background and the expiration year will be placed on top of the dogwood tree flower image.
“We want Virginians to have confidence that when they see an inspection sticker on a vehicle that the vehicle has been truly inspected by a qualified professional, and that vehicle is, in fact, safe to be out on the road,” said Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Hanley, Interim Superintendent of Virginia State Police. “These new features add an additional layer of security to ensure criminals are not circumventing the safety inspection system.”
Officials said the inspection stickers will be placed on vehicles this year and will expire in 2026.
