OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — It's everyone's favorite holiday, National Pothole day of course! Oklahoma City wants you to celebrate by reporting the nearest ones near you. "We have over 8-thousand miles of roadway that we manage," said Shannon Cox, the public information officer for Public Works. The remnants of last week's winter weather is still melting and refreezing in some parts of the city, despite street crews doing their best to clear the roads. Cox said the number did a number on our roads. "The water gets under there during the day. When it freezes, it expands.," said Cox. "It’ll pop it." Crews can't know where every pot hole is across the city's 8,000 miles, despite filling up 60,000 of them a year. "We can’t be in every location at every time, so if you do find one it does help us respond a lot quicker," said Cox. On this national pot-hole day, the city wants you to report the problem areas by website, email, phone, or text. Log on to okc.gov/action. Email [email protected]. Text (405) 252-1053. Call the Action Center at (405) 297-2535. "We’ll enter it into our system and then hopefully within the next day or two we can go and fill those," said Cox. The city has an extra incentive to fill those holes before they damage vehicles. Just this week, the city council awarded a driver nearly $750 for car repairs on a pothole that was reported but not fixed. Remember, try to give crews the most accurate location as possible.
