MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A car accident involving a utility pole in East Memphis caused a power outage at an elementary school in the area, according to Memphis Light, Gas, and Water.
The outage left Sea Isle Elementary School in the dark on Wednesday morning.
MLGW initially said it could take several hours to make repairs. Just before 11 a.m., we were told power had been restored to the school.
Parents dropping their children off on Wednesday morning said they were not notified about the outage.
"We just were not notified," said a mother. "I packed lunch, we got Vaseline on our face, we cleaned, we ready but I didn’t know. We would have stayed home."
Memphis Police say the crash took place just after 3 a.m. on White Station Road near Flamingo Road.

The driver told police that while she was traveling southbound, a vehicle traveling northbound drove straight at her car and she swerved, hitting the utility pole. No injuries were reported.
"It's just an unfortunate incident that happened this morning," said another mother. "I don’t think it’s good for the kids to be in school while it’s cold and dark. They are asking the parents to come back around and come back and get them."
Some parents say it’s an inconvenience but they understand. Other parents say they feel like they are in the dark, and that the school district needs a better system to keep parents notified of what’s going on with their child’s school.
“That comes from the board on down to the school. We know it’s important to communicate especially to the parents," said a mother.
