District representatives of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council were sworn in Sunday, January 12, at the Lexington Senior Center. The ceremony began at 2 p.m. with a welcome from Lillie Ruschell, Master of Ceremonies, and the Presentation of the Colors by Lexington’s Public Safety Color Guard. The program also featured performances by Serge Kalinde and Janeway Howard, as well as an invocation led by Temple Adath Israel Rabbi David Wirtschafter. “This is an exciting day for our city,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “Welcome to our new Council Members, and congratulations to all of you. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us. I know you’re ready to roll up your sleeves for your city, and our residents. I look forward to working with you, as we continue to move our city forward.”  Vice Mayor Dan Wu also shared remarks and excitement for the year ahead. “As Lexington continues to be a diverse and inclusive place, I am proud to lead a council that can truly represent its people,” he said. Following remarks from the Mayor and Vice Mayor, district Council Members took the Oath of Office, administered by Fayette District Judge Denotra Gunther. The 2025-26 District Council Members are: Tyler Morton, 1st District; Shayla Lynch, 2nd District; Hannah LeGris, 3rd District; Emma Curtis, 4th District; Liz Sheehan, 5th District; Denise Gray, 6th District; Joseph Hale, 7th District; Amy Beasley, 8th District; Whitey Elliott Baxter, 9th District; Dave Sevigny, 10th District; Jennifer Reynolds, 11th District; and Hilary Boone, 12th District. The Urban County Council will have its first official meetings of this session on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
