Indianapolis recorded its coldest temperature of the season this morning with a low of -1°. A year ago on this date was the coldest of 2024 with a morning low of -6°. Although we had a full day of sunshine, this was the coldest day of the year with a high of 20°. Clouds will increase this evening and temperatures will fall to the lower teens late this evening and then start to rise through the overnight hours. We've had 11.6" of snow this month, bringing our seasonal total to 15.8" inches, which is more than four inches above average. Another shot of snow will slide over the state Thursday morning. This will primarily impact areas along and north of I-70 but a few snow showers sliding a little farther south will be possible. This will be another fluffy snow with light accumulations of a few tenths of an inch. Winds will gust up to 25 miles per hour and this will lead to blowing snow across our roadways. The heaviest snow will fall early in the day and a few flurries and isolated snow showers will be likely through the afternoon. Our cold air briefly retreats over the next couple of days. Highs will be above freezing Thursday and we will be near 40° by Friday with rain chances late Friday into early Saturday. A few snowflakes will mix in by Saturday morning and we'll have a few stray flurries in the colder air on Sunday. Brace yourselves for a stronger push of arctic air late this weekend into next week. Highs will only be in the teens Sunday and the coldest air of the season will move in early next week. Expect single-digit highs Monday and Tuesday with morning lows below zero from Monday through Wednesday. Wednesday was the coldest day of the year so far. Snow has been plentiful this season and more than 20 counties are under travel advisories. Lows will fall into the teens before rising overnight, with temperatures above freezing Thursday afternoon. Expect a few snow showers Thursday morning and a few flurries through the afternoon. The next six days have historically been the coldest in Indianapolis history. After a brief warm-up to end the week, the coldest air of the season will move in early next week.
