Braun orders flags back to fullstaff for Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20
Jan 15, 2025
INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Governor Mike Braun has ordered flags be returned to full-staff for President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Monday.
Flags were ordered to fly at half-staff for 30 days in honor of the late former President Jimmy Carter. The order follows U.S. flag code policy for the passing of a president. This 30-day mourning period meant flags wouldn't return to full staff until Jan. 28, more than a week after Inauguration Day.
Incoming President Trump expressed frustration at the idea of flags being at half-staff when he is sworn into his second term in the White House. Republican governors in at least eight states have since ordered flags to be raised back to full height on Jan. 20 to support Trump.
Braun joined the governors of Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Iowa, Texas and other GOP-lead states by issuing a similar order on Wednesday.

As part of Braun's order, flags would be raised from half-staff to full height on sunrise of Jan. 20. Flags would then return to half-staff at sunset.
Flags will remain at half-staff for the remainder of January to honor former President Carter.
