Two HCCC inmates back in custody, third still at large

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Kawai J. Pomroy, one of three inmates who escaped from the Hawaii Community Correctional Center (HCCC) in December 2024, has been returned to custody.

Pomroy, 41, was apprehended by park rangers at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on Tuesday afternoon, January 14, 2025.
Pomroy faces multiple charges, including second-degree escape, first-degree theft (motor vehicle), and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
He was also arrested for violating his furlough conditions under a warden’s arrest warrant.
Pomroy’s capture comes after Joseph C. Fernandez, 36, was arrested on December 18, 2024, at the Hawaiian Ocean View Estates subdivision in Ka'u District.

However, one inmate, Clyde T. Loa, 31, remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
Loa was part of the group that escaped on December 13, 2024, and is believed to have stolen an employee's vehicle during the escape. The vehicle was later found in Ocean View Estates.
Loa is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing around 165 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
He is serving time for unauthorized control of a vehicle, resisting arrest, and unauthorized possession of confidential information.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on Loa's whereabouts to contact 911 or the Sheriff's Division at 808-586-1352.
