APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - The 29-year-old woman who was charged with child neglect that resulted in the death of her two-year-old child pled no contest in court on Wednesday. According to court records, Brooke Seal of Little Chute was found guilty due to the no-contest plea on two counts, with one charge being dismissed. The death investigation began in January 2024 after authorities responded to a home with a report of a 2-year-old not breathing. The child later died at a hospital. An extensive investigation revealed that the child's death was due to a fentanyl overdose. The original release noted that the level of fentanyl in the system was 'enough to kill a grown adult.' Suspect apprehended in multi-agency stolen vehicle investigation that started in Fond du Lac Seal's phone had texts that revealed she was trying to buy fentanyl within hours of the child's death, according to the original criminal complaint.
