FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- After being arrested in connection to a fatal stabbing at Promenade Park, 23-year-old Lamont Cooley reportedly admitted to the act and said he was trying to protect a woman being harassed, according to Allen Superior Court documents. Now, additional documents show the woman involved in the stabbing faces a felony charge of her own for reportedly helping with the suspect. The woman, identified as 38-year-old Brandi Summers, faces a charge of assisting a criminal who committed murder, which is a Level 5 felony. Fort Wayne police responded to Promenade Park Jan. 4 and found an unresponsive man in the "family" restroom in the main pavilion. The man, later identified as 48-year-old Anthony "Africa" Wamue, was found with several stab wounds, including some that appeared to be defensive stab wounds, according to court documents. Wamue was pronounced dead at the scene. Court docs: Stabbing suspect claims man was harrassing woman at Promenade Park Surveillance footage outside the bathroom showed Cooley, Summers and an unnamed witness enter and exit the bathroom several times, according to court documents. At one point, Summers is seen throwing a knife out the door, where Cooley allegedly picked it up. Although the stabbing wasn’t caught on camera, Cooley is eventually seen leaving the bathroom with Wamue’s bicycle. Two days after the stabbing, Summers reportedly admitted she was on the surveillance video but denied knowing what happened to the victim or seeing anything, according to court documents. During an interview with police, Cooley reportedly said the item Summers threw to him was the knife he used to stab Wamue and that she "gave it back to us." Cooley also told police Summers had said the victim was "fine" when she came out of the restroom, according to court documents. The officer who wrote the court documents indicated that Wamue was likely already dead when Summers left the restroom "based on the timing and injuries." Summers does not have an initial hearing scheduled as of Wednesday afternoon, while Cooley -- who faces a murder charge -- has two hearings scheduled for Jan. 22 and March 10. Wamue's death marked the first homicide in Allen County in 2025.
