CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A serious crash involving two large trucks shut down Highway 17 in the Awendaw area on Wednesday afternoon. Emergency crews responded to the crash in the southbound lanes before noon. Lt. Jason Collins with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office said two semi-trucks collided, causing a fuel leak. People at the Sewee Outpost told News 2 that fuel was "all over the roadway." The South Department of Public Health and the Department of Transportation are on the scene to help with the fuel spill. Tow trucks are also working to clear the semi-trucks from the road. Both drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic is being diverted onto Fifteen Mile Landing Road.
